Inverness
Inverness, the county seat of Citrus, offers a small-town lifestyle that provides its residents the services and facilities available in larger cities.

It's peaceful neighborhoods are ideal for retirement communities or raising a family.

Motorists entering the city on SR 44 East can catch a glimpse of the sunset reflected off Lake Henderson as they drive past the clusters of moss-draped cypress trees. The lake lies within the Tsala Apopka chain of lakes on the city's northeastern boundary.

In fact those lakes contributed to the city's name, which originates from the Scottish Inverness, meaning land at the foot of Lock Ness.

Just down the road stands the Old Citrus County Courthouse, the city's most notable landmark. The courthouse, which is designated on the National Register of Historical Places, sits on a diamond shaped lot on Courthouse Square. The Courthouse was built in 1912 and has been completely restored.

Another city highlight is the Crown Hotel on North Seminole Avenue, one of the state's most notable lodges. The English hotel with its display case replicas of the British Crown Jewels and spiraling staircase, is home to many receptions, weddings and luncheons.

Inverness offers plenty of recreational opportunities too. It offers the state's largest city-owned park, a park on Lake Henderson and several neighborhood parks.

Whispering Pines Park, a 300 - acre park off Forest Park Drive, is home to several youth and adult baseball, football and soccer leagues and has a junior Olympic size swimming pool, and basketball, tennis and racquetball courts.
