Hernando
Hernando was born around 1891 when a gentleman by the name of James Ernest Westbrook built a two story structure that was to be his home and a hotel.
Since that time Hernando has become the crossroads of Citrus County and is known as a fine lakes region, a haven to anglers and boaters. This quiet beauty keeps freshwater fishermen coming back for more, like the settlers in the early part of the century, who found their way to Hernando to make their homes on the water.
Hernando has a school, a fire department, a library and a Post Office. Several campgrounds make use of the natural amenities provided by the lake. Hernando beach, which is located off of Parson's Point Road, provides a way to relax on weekends.
