
Floral City
There are many sites to see in this world and one of those should be Floral City with its majestic century old oaks draped in Spanish moss. It is a beautiful view and one that will leave a lasting impression.
This beautiful city is located in the southeastern corner of Citrus County on the edge of the Tsala Apopka Lake chain. Floral City contains some of the most beautiful scenery in the county. Its bass filled lakes, canals and the nearby Withlacoochee River have encouraged many a winter guest to call the village home.
Orange Avenue (CR 48) with all its majestic oaks cuts through the heart of this small, rural, historic community and is the roadway that is one of the most photographed in the state of Florida.
These same historic oaks played a major role in assuring that Floral City Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 1, 1993.
This District of 29 buildings, structures and sites in Citrus County's only National Historic District. These historic buildings and others in the village are showcased each year at Floral City Heritage Days. On the first Saturday of December, visitors can step back in time to the turn-of-the-century and partake of folk food, music, dance, stories, hay rides and watch early folk skills demonstrated.
Floral City is also the site of one of the biggest and tastiest community events in citrus county - the annual Floral City Strawberry Festival. Held the first weekend in March, the festival draws tens of thousands of visitors to dine on tasty, fresh strawberries in all types of dishes.
The Strawberry Festival is held in the popular Floral City Park located 1.5 miles south of Floral City. The county park is noted for its paved walking paths, shuffle board courts and well equipped playground.
Another attraction nearby is Ft. Cooper State Park, located halfway between Inverness and Floral City on Old Floral City Road. The state park features a lake with benches, picnic areas surrounded by nature trails and an old fort site. The Withlacoochee State Trail provides a lineal park through Floral City and a corridor between Ft. Cooper Park and Floral City Park.
Floral City has nine churches, a public elementary school and a K-12 parochial school. A branch of the county library system and a volunteer fire department service the community as do a wide variety of civic, religious and social organizations. The main business area is centered at the intersection of SR 41 and C.R. 48.
