Crystal River
Crystal River is getting a makeover. The city is in the midst of a redevelopment project on Citrus Avenue which is to include the addition of gas replica lamps, park benches and bricks to the road. All of these additions are being done to give the city an old-time feeling.
Crystal River, Citrus County's city-by-the-gulf, is situated, and economically dependent, on King's Bay. This city of more than 3,000, on the county's western edge, is a year-round playground for any mammal who loves the wonders of the water.
Diving, fishing, boating and a variety of other water-based activities are the recreational center-pieces of this community that also proudly boasts of being the winter home of Florida's most popular endangered species - the manatee.
What makes Crystal River so attractive to both man and manatee is the freshwater springs in King's Bay. The springs are Florida's second largest and they keep the bay at a tranquil 72 degrees all year.
Aside from the bay, Crystal River also has direct access to the salt waters of the Gulf of Mexico by way of the Crystal RIver
For land lovers looking to sightsee or shop, there is the Indian burial grounds, a variety of small shops and the 500,000 square foot Crystal River Mall on U.S. 19.
Crystal River entices visitors to stay awhile and offers several hotels and motels both in and outside the city. And for a more permanent stay, numerous developments and other housing from the lavish to the not-so-lavish can be located nearby.
